history

The building, whose name is derived from the red paint of the house, was built in the 17th century by the long-established von Unterrichter family and redesigned in the 18th century. In the three-storey facade facing the street there are stone-framed, barred windows and two gates, and in the central halls and side rooms there are stucco ceilings and stoves from the Baroque period.

Through the marriage of the heiress Barbara von Unterrichter-Rechtenthal (1808–1880) with Ludwig von Lutterotti (1794–1845), the residence came to the von Lutterotti family in 1829, which was owned by Emperor Charles VI in 1737 . the hereditary imperial nobility had been conferred. Members of the family held high positions in the administration of the Habsburg Empire . Ludwig von Lutterotti was the district court president of Veneto and head of the Zara Court of Appeal in Dalmatia . His grandson, the later Benedictine Nikolaus von Lutterotti , was born in the Red House in Kaltern.
