Roth-Technik Austria ( RTA ) is a manufacturer of muffler and exhaust gas aftertreatment systems ( catalysts ) for vehicle exhaust systems , based in Rastatt , Baden-Württemberg and St. Aegyd , Lower Austria.

history

Roth-Technik , at the time one of the largest German silencer and exhaust manufacturers, is originally an offshoot of Max-Roth-Maschinenwerke in Gaggenau- Ottenau (founded in 1924). In 1990 the company took over the production of exhaust systems located in the St. Aegyd ironworks in the Eisenwurzen area in Austria .

This production in St. Aegyd emerged from the iron and steel industry company that was established in the 1790s to 1820s and led by Jakob Fischer and Daniel Fischer . It was initially a cast steel and wire rope mill, which was converted into a rolling mill after the First World War. In 1978 the Linz-based VOEST took over the plant, VOEST-ALPINE Werkzeug u. Draht  AG (VAWD), from 1984 divided as VOEST  Alpine St. Aegyd  AG (VASTAG) and VOEST- Alpine Werkzeug & Präzisionstechnik  GmbH (the pipe and exhaust production of Voestalpine went to Krieglach , the wire division was taken over by Teufelberger in Wels), and from 1987 VASTAG Automobiltechnik  GesmbH. Voest had been manufacturing silencer systems as early as 1982 and retrofit systems for cars from 1984.

As a result, the company traded as Roth-Technik Austria  GmbH (founded as such in 1987), for which the RTA brand soon became established. As of 1992, in addition to the initial VASTAG retrofit kits, it was also possible to take over the original equipment for well-known German automobile companies.

In 1996, Armin Angele, the previous managing director, took over RTA, and the company acquired know-how, including the associated patents, from the parent company at the time. Around 2000, silencers and diesel particle filters were manufactured for diesel engines for trucks, buses and vans (on-road), for agricultural machines, construction machinery and floor conveyors (off-road) as well as stationary engines, ships and rail vehicles (non-road).

In the early 2000s, the company, together with the commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN, brought the soot particle filter on a metal foil basis ( PM-Kat ) developed by Emitec in the 1980s to market maturity by being able to fully integrate it into the exhaust system - previously these systems were only used for retrofitting older vehicles used. The new EU emissions standards of 2005 and 2008 gave this market a big boost in growth. RTA then took over the entire production for MAN, around 2006 with 180 employees at the time, sales tripled to 30 million euros in just a few years. The company made further developments in the field of high-temperature-resistant paints and the vibration-proof installation of ceramic catalysts . In 2014, the production part was relocated to RTA GmbH, and Roth-Technik Austria  GmbH has been functioning as a 100% holding company and technical office since then. At the time the company had a good 200 employees and a turnover of around 100 million euros.
