Teufelberger (own spelling: TEUFELBERGER) is a manufacturer of ropes . The international group of companies is based in Wels in Upper Austria and is a family business.

history

In 1790, Johann Teufelberger, a trained rope maker, founded a hemp rope factory in what is now Bad Wimsbach in Upper Austria, which primarily produced hemp ropes for agriculture. Due to the course of the horse-drawn railway through Wels , the company was relocated from Wimsbach to nearby Wels in 1901. In 1931 the production of steel ropes started, in 1941 also those made of synthetic fiber.

From 1987 onwards, various production sites were set up or companies and divisions of companies were bought up. In 1987, the Teufelberger Seil Gesellschaft started manufacturing steel ropes at the new location in Wels. In 1991 and 1999 the rope and sailing sports divisions of the companies FSE, Germany and Roblon , Denmark (then FSE Robline ) were acquired. In the meantime, production of the first polyester strapping began in 1997 and the fiber rope factory opened in Wesseli an der Lainsitz , Czech Republic in 1998 . Two further acquisitions followed in 2001 and 2007 - those of the steel cable works of Voestalpine -Austria  Draht , Sankt Aegyd , Lower Austria and New England Ropes , Fall River , USA. In parallel to the purchase of the production site in Fall River, the Rope Technology Center was opened in Wels . The Wels site was named as a best-practice showcase company in the context of klima aktiv for its efficient biomass combustion .

In 2011 Robship , Sweden joined the group. In 2014, parts of the harvested twine division (bundle material) were given to TAMA in Hungary, but the fiber rope company Textech Cord , Thailand, was taken over. In 2016, Teufelberger took over the rope production machines from the Swiss Mammut Sports Group , which no longer produces ropes in Switzerland itself. In 2017 the Italian manufacturer of special steel ropes REDAELLI was acquired.

The parent company is still majority owned by the Teufelberger family. The current company manager is Florian Teufelberger.
