Jakob Fischer (manufacturer)

Jakob Fischer (* 1743 in Suhl , Thuringia , † August 24, 1809 in Vienna ) was an Austrian armorer and steel goods manufacturer.

Life

Jakob Fischer learned the gunsmithing and filing trade. On his wandering he came to And near Krems , where he found work in a workshop. From 1775 he had his own business in Rehberg near Krems, where he made saber blades of the best reputation. In 1788 he bought the hammer mill in Traisen (today voestalpine foundry), but a little later he moved to St. Aegyd am Neuwalde , where he built the ironworks at Gut Birbisthal (1869 St. Egydi Eisen- und Stahlindustrie Gesellschaft , later VOEST, now RTA and Teufelberger ). In 1800 he also acquired the file factory in Furthof (municipality of Hohenberg) , brand “St. Aegyd ”(closed in 1982). In 1803 he also bought the ironworks in Niederalpl to ensure his own steel production.
