history

Rothaus was first mentioned in 1681 as a "new forest tavern and customs station". The place was late medieval property of the Schaffhausen patrician family Rot. In 1766 the place was bought by the Abbey of St. Blasien , which built a brewery there in 1791/92. After the transition to Baden , it became a state brewery in 1806.
