Rothenturn
Rothenturn (also Rothenturm , Thurn-Schlössl and similar names and spellings) is a residence in Schenna in South Tyrol .
building
The originally crenellated residential tower on an elongated floor plan was brought into its current form around 1670. The building has a regular floor plan with stone-framed windows. A chapel with pilasters, beams and groin vaults is located on the ground floor . The first floor has a central room with four symmetrically arranged side rooms, the second floor a hall with two side rooms.
The farmyard belonging to the residence was at times divided. The Thurnerhof inn has been set up and leased in his house since 1996 .
history
The time when the castle was built is not known. In the 14th century it was owned by a branch of the family of the Lords of Schenna and until 1422 in the possession of the Lords of Starkenberg . Around 1454 the castle belonged to a Steffel or Stoffl family. Around 1500 Hans and Kaspar zum Roten Turn owned the castle, from whom the later name was derived.
In 1583 the castle was owned by farmers and was rebuilt in 1670. Count Benedikt Mamming sold the residence to Hansen Malepell in 1697.
Archduke Johann of Austria acquired Schenna Castle and the Rothenturn Castle in 1845 . He and his descendants from the Meran family had the dilapidated Rothenturm Castle renovated. The building was sold in 1961 to the Ritter von Srbik family or the Liechtenstein Rothenturmanstalt.
