Rotring ( proper spelling rOtring ) is a brand name of the US company Sanford Corporation , which is used for all kinds of drawing supplies . In turn, Sanford is a subsidiary of Newell Rubbermaid .
The brand name "rotring" originally belonged to rotring-werke Riepe KG in Hamburg , which was sold to Sanford and Newell Rubbermaid in 1998 and is therefore now called Sanford GmbH .
For technical drawing , Rotring supplies writing instruments ( mechanical pencils , ink pen-isograph , rapidograph , drawing boards , and in the past also writing stencils , ink pens ) and compasses .
The series Rotring 600 and later Rotring 600 NEWTON made of solid brass are still sought-after writing instruments even after production has been discontinued.
