Uwe Storch

Uwe Storch (born July 12, 1940 in Leopoldshall ; † September 17, 2017 in Lanzarote ) was a German mathematician . His field of work was commutative algebra and analytic and algebraic geometry . The main research areas were derivations , divisor class groups , resultants .

Storch studied mathematics , physics and mathematical logic at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in 1966 under Heinrich Behnke on almost factorial rings . Storch completed his habilitation in Bochum in 1972 and became a professor at the University of Osnabrück in 1974 . From 1981 until his retirement in 2006 he was Professor of Algebra and Geometry at the Ruhr University Bochum .

Uwe Storch was married and had four sons.

Storch's theorem (or Storch- Eisenbud - Evans' theorem ) says that every algebraic sub- variety in n- dimensional affine space can be described geometrically (ie up to the radical ) by n polynomials .
