The Rottweil is a mine diving rescue boat of the German Navy . The former minehunter of Frankenthal class , which in the first minesweeping squadron in Olpenitz and then in the third minesweeping squadron in Kiel served and in that time, among others, the Operation Allied Harvest had participated, was 2007/08 on the Peene shipyard in Wolgast and in the naval arsenal in Kiel converted into a mine diving mission boat. A pressure chamber , a situation room and a diving platform were installed and the number of dinghies increased from two to four.

The boat, stationed in Kiel, belongs as part of the sea battalion to the operational flotilla 1 in Kiel. The first in command was Kapitänleutnant Kurt Altfuldisch, the oldest mine diver in the German Navy. The Rottweil replaces the Mühlhausen boat built at the Kröger shipyard in Schacht-Audorf and also commanded by Altfuldisch .

The Rottweil can accommodate up to 15 mine divers and their special equipment. The job of divers is to clear mines and bombs from ports and beaches and to examine ships and underwater installations such as pipelines for explosive charges in crisis situations. H. to work where demining with underwater drones is problematic and mines cannot simply be blown away. Mine divers are also used to classify and identify mines and to evaluate the blasting (success).

Trivia

Rottweil crews run a stand at the Rottweiler Christmas market every year. The proceeds are donated to regional projects that change every year.
