Roualeyn Robert Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce, 9th Baron Thurlow of Thurlow (born April 13, 1952 ) is a British peer and politician (Crossbencher).

Life

Roualeyn Robert Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce, 9th Baron Thurlow was born to Francis Edward Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce, 8th Baron Thurlow of Thurlow and his wife Yvonne Diana Wilson († 1990). He attended Milton Abbey School in Dorset , South West England. He is a Chartered Surveyor . Currently (as of January 2015) he advises institutional investors on a part-time basis. He is a member (Professional Associate) of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (ARICS).

He inherited the title of Baron Thurlow in the Peerage of Great Britain on March 24, 2013 with the death of his father . Probable title heir (heir apparent) is his eldest son Nicholas Edward Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce.

Thurlow is married. He married his wife Bridget Anne Julia Cheape on May 5, 1980, the only daughter of (Hugh) Bruce Ismay Cheape. His wife is from South Lodge , Isle of Mull . The marriage resulted in four children, two sons (* 1986 and * 1990) and two daughters (* 1986 and * 1991).

He lived on the Old Vicarage estate in Mapledurham near Reading in Berkshire . Currently (as of January 2015) he lives in Oxfordshire / Westminster and during the holiday season in Scotland .

Membership in the House of Lords

Thurlow is non-party . In the by -election of Hereditary Peers for the House of Lords, made necessary by the departure of Roger Chorley, 2nd Baron Chorley and Flora Fraser, 21st Lady Saltoun , who both had voluntarily retired, Thurlow stood as a candidate in February 2015 . Thurlow received the highest number of votes at the first count and was thus elected as a formal member of the House of Lords.

In his brief introduction to the by-election, he cited European politics , agricultural politics , environmental politics and environmental protection as well as charity organizations as topics of political interest .
