The Rouanet-Gymnasium-Beeskow is a state high school in the district town of Beeskow . It was named after the French soldier and writer Jean Pierre Barthélemy Rouanet , who did a meritorious job for Beeskow.

history

The building of the Rouanet high school, which was completed on January 4, 1899, served as a barracks for the 2nd division of the 3rd Guards Field Artillery Regiment . After the Second World War , the Red Army used the building to accommodate their soldiers. In 1990 the school management of the grammar school, which was then on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, decided to use the building as a school building. The building was therefore renovated in autumn 1990. The date of establishment is dated June 5, 1991.

The information about the year of construction of the building was obtained by chance: On March 31, 1992, a construction worker found a beer bottle with a handwritten note on the previous use of the house between a ceiling and the floor above.

In 2010 the Rouanet-Gymnasium received the title of " Employee UNESCO School " within the framework of " Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)".

The Rouanet Gymnasium has been a recognized Unesco project school since November 2017 . The certificate was presented to the headmaster Klaus-Jürgen Teichert on November 20, 2017 during the ceremony for the 25th school anniversary by Heinz-Jürgen Rickert, the coordinator of the German Unesco schools.

School events

High school graduates at the motto day "Sport".

There are annual school concerts at the Rouanet High School. These include the Christmas concert, which is usually organized by two tenth grades: the “Family Night” and the benefit concert. Here the music teachers organize a program with the students.

In addition, the UNESCO AG organizes project days and a charity run every year.

Sporting school events are realized through the school triathlon and the midnight volleyball tournament. Here, teams of students and usually a team of teachers compete against each other.

On November 14, 2012, a public festival and a festival of lights took place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary.

building

The Rouanet High School has four buildings on the school campus.

The main building: This is where various classrooms, the secretariat as well as teachers' rooms, offices and meeting rooms are located. On the right side of the building from the entrance you will find the specialist rooms for the natural sciences of biology, physics and chemistry. On the left side of the building there are mainly offices, meeting rooms, the staff room and the secretariat. The main building has an elevator at the back.

LER-Haus: The LER-Haus, named after the subject of lifestyle, ethics and religion , is the smaller building in the middle of the campus. Originally it was used for the music department.

Outbuilding: The outbuilding with a glass extension houses the departments of music (in the basement), art and performing arts (upper floor). The cafeteria, the canteen (former assembly hall) and a school club are located on the ground floor. The glass extension is also called "glass box" by the students.

House Emilie: Since April 15, 2016, the school has also had a new building, the "Emilie" house, named after his wife Theodor Fontanes . The foundation stone of the building was laid on June 1, 2015 by the headmaster and the district administrator Manfred Zalenga, who was active at the time . The building is located behind the annex, has only one ground floor and is externally very different from the other buildings in terms of color and material. There are three classrooms for the German department. Special features are the very large windows as well as the wide corridor and the interior design. Due to the concrete walls and the black exterior, the building is sometimes referred to as the “German bunker” by students.

For physical education, the high school students go to the Beeskow sports and leisure center.

The neighboring Beeskower Schützenhaus also serves as an additional building as a school auditorium , where exams and exams are often written. However, regular classes do not take place there. The grammar school uses the historic rifle house for school events. The old auditorium was far too small for the number of guests at such events and is now used as a canteen .

Lessons and full day

At the Rouanet Gymnasium, students in the 7th grade have to choose between French and Latin . There are usually 2 French classes (7a and 7b) and 2 Latin classes (7c and 7d). From grade 9 onwards there is also the option of attending a Russian course.

Physical education usually takes place separately in the lower grades (Sek 1). In the secondary level 2 boys and girls are taught together again.

Since the winter of 2011, the Rouanet-Gymnasium has been teaching exclusively in block lessons (90 instead of 45 minutes).

The all-day program at the Rouanet Gymnasium is designed for the 7th – 10th grade. Class and includes a very wide range of extracurricular activities.

Language trips and partner schools

A student exchange with a French school is organized every year for the ninth grade students. The Latin classes also go to Trier in the 9th grade and examine the influence of Roman culture on the Rhineland-Palatinate city.

The partner schools include the Ecole Polyvalente in Bujumb ( Burundi ) and a school in Voronezh (Russia) with which there are regular student exchanges.

Exchange programs have also been arranged with Finns, Danes and others.
