John 'Rove' McManus (born January 21, 1974 in Perth , Western Australia ) is a comedy star on Australian television and co-founder and owner of the production company Roving Enterprise .
John McManus II was the second son of the marriage between John and Coralie McManus. McManus grew up in Riverton and first attended the Orana Catholic Primary School and then the Corpus Christi College in Bateman.
After graduating from high school, McManus tried his hand at stand-up comedian on local Perth television. In 1995, however, he left Perth and moved to Melbourne to get his own TV show on the local channel 31, which he called The Loft Live . He already performed there with his long-term partners Peter Helliar and Corinne Grant .
In September 1999, Channel Nine Network aired a pilot series of Rove Live . However, it only stayed with a few programs, so the program then switched to Channel Ten Network, where McManus has been presenting Rove Live since 2000. During this time, McManus became one of the most famous comedians on Australian television. The program was also broadcast time-shifted in New Zealand . McManus took advantage of his popularity by trying to invite Australian Prime Minister John Howard to appear on his show during the 2004 election campaign by pleading with Howard over and over and mobilizing half the country. But in vain. In 2007 Howard's rival for the post of Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, was a guest on the show. After he won the election, he was a guest again in 2008.
In 2003, 2004 and 2005 McManus won the Golden Logie Award (roughly the Australian Emmys) for the most popular TV star of the year and Rove Live also won the Logie Award for the best evening entertainment show . In 2003 McManus won three logies, including a. as best television presenter, best comedy program and the Logie Award for best known person on Australian television. He was able to repeat this success in 2004 and 2005. In 2006 he was named the best television presenter.
On July 22 and 29, 2007, Rove broadcast special programs from New York and Los Angeles. Rove McManus appeared on Jay Leno's The Tonight Show in LA in May 2007 , which resulted in a regular segment "Rove Across America" on the show through 2011.
His company has also been producing the Channel 10 program The Project since 2009 , which also introduced some logies.
Rove is a nickname his sister gave him when he was younger. Meanwhile, 'Rove' is also his nickname.
McManus married Australian actress Belinda Emmett in January 2005 , but she died of bone marrow cancer in November 2006 . As a result, at McManus' request, all other Rove Live broadcasts were canceled, and McManus withdrew from the public. It wasn't until April 1, 2007 that his show went back on the air , now only with the name Rove . It was the show with the highest ratings in Australia to date . In 2009 he married the actress Tasma Walton , with whom he had been dating since 2007. In 2013, this marriage produced a daughter.
Rove McManus has a brother, Luke McManus, and two sisters. His cousin Shane McManus was a professional player for the Fremantle Dockers in the Australian Football League .
