Coordinates: 30 ° 34 ′  S , 136 ° 54 ′  E The Municipal Council of Roxby Downs is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 110 km² and has about 3900 inhabitants (2016).

Roxby Downs is one of two LGAs in South Australia in the middle of the outback and is located about 550 kilometers northwest of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes the town of Roxby Downs , which is the administrative center and the Olympic Dam mine .
