Roy Fedden

Sir Alfred Hubert Roy Fedden ( June 6, 1885 - November 21, 1973 ) was a British aeronautical engineer.

Fedden played a major role in the development of the radial engine as a powerful aircraft engine. He trained at Bristol Motors and went to Brazil Straker in 1906 , where he developed the successful Shamrock car. There he became chief designer in 1914. With the takeover of Straker by Cosmos Engineering and the subsequent purchase of Cosmos by Bristol in 1920, Fedden became head of the engine division at Bristol Aircraft Company .

He developed a number of successful engines there in the 1920s, such as the Bristol Jupiter . For the development of powerful valve engines, he was in 1942 for Knight Bachelor beaten. In 1945 he got involved with Roy Fedden Ltd. independently and designed vehicles and airplanes, but without success. For a short time he was a consultant for Dowty . Eventually he taught at Cranfield University .

His daughter Mary Fedden (1915–2012) was a well-known artist.
