Royston is a settlement (unincorporated place) on the Canadian island of Vancouver Island , in the Comox Valley Regional District . It is located about 5 km southeast of Courtenay and about 100 km northwest of Nanaimo . Highway 19A runs through the settlement .
history
In 1890 William Roy settled on the site of the present location. He named the place Royston. At the beginning of the last century, Royston was the main hub for the timber industry. The coal from the mine in Cumberland was also loaded here.
Demographics
The 2011 census showed a population of 1,562 residents for the settlement. The population of the settlement decreased by 9.1% compared to the 2006 census, while the population in the province of British Columbia increased by 7.0%.
