Rubh 'to Dunain
Rubha an Dùnain (also Rubha an Dùnain or Loch na h-Airde) a megalithic chamber grave ( English chambered tomb ) of type Clyde Tomb in the Cuillin Hills on Loch Brittle, a deep bay on the west coast of the island of Skye in the Council Area Highland in Scotland .
Near the end of the promontory south of Loch Brittle is the round stone mound , far from any settlement, next to a wall that leads to the sea. It has a concave forecourt in front of the entrance that leads to a gallery consisting of three separate chambers. In the 3rd millennium BC The cairn built in BC is still 3.3 m high. The chambers and the facade are well preserved. On both sides of the entrance, the facade consists of upright monoliths connected by dry stone masonry . This border seems to have continued around the cairn in a low form, as individual stones testify to. The same method was used to build the short entrance room, a passage and the polygonal chamber. Four lintels are still in place in the ceiling of the passage and antechamber. The ceiling rises from about 80 cm at the entrance to 1.6 m at the inner lintel. The polygonal chamber is now uncovered and can be viewed from above. The excavation in the 1930s found the remains of five adults, along with Neolithic pottery, flint and quartz chips, and a piece of pumice stone .
At the south end, Loch na h-Airde is connected to Soay Sound by a narrow, man-made waterway called the Viking Channel . It is enclosed by walls, but too narrow for boats. Therefore, an industrial purpose in the Middle Ages is likely.
