history

Rubow was first mentioned in a document in 1217, when Gunzelin II, Count of Schwerin, together with his brother Heinrich I gave the villages of Rubow and Medewege to the cathedral chapter of Schwerin. Alt Schlagsdorf, Buchholz, Flessenow and Liessow are first mentioned in 1241. In addition to the cathedral chapter, the von Sperling family had shares in Rubow since 1342. Until the 18th century she owned a complex of goods, which also included Buchholz, Flessenow and Schlagsdorf. The Rubow community dissolved as a legal entity at the end of June 12, 2004 and merged with the Retgendorf community, which was dissolved at the same time, to form the new community Dobin am See.

coat of arms

Rubow Coat of Arms
Blazon : “Divided by a cut of seven firs; above, in red, two silver sparrows turned towards them; below in gold a red three-mountain topped with a jumping silver fish. "

The coat of arms was designed by Roland Bornschein from Wismar . It was approved on November 8, 1995 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under No. 93 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Justification of the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the cut of the fir is supposed to symbolize the districts of the former municipality and the wealth of forests in the area. With the sparrows, which were borrowed from the coat of arms of the von Sperling family, the memory of the family is to be kept alive, which determined the development of the places for centuries. The Dreiberg refers to the hilly landscape, the fish to the location of the former community on Lake Schwerin. Due to the merger with Retgendorf to form the new municipality Dobin am See on June 13, 2004, the municipality's coat of arms lost its status as a national emblem. However, it can still be used by the residents as an identification symbol and as a sign of solidarity with their place.

flag

The former municipality did not have an officially approved flag .
