Ruchill Parish Church

The Ruchill Parish Church , formerly the Ruchill United Presbyterian Church , is a parish church of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in the highest monument category A. However, the church building was later downgraded to Category B. The associated community hall is separately classified as a Category A monument.

history

The Ruchill Parish Church was built between 1903 and 1905. Scottish architect Neil Campbell Duff is responsible for the design . The client was at that time already for the United Free Church of Scotland merged United Presbyterian of Scotland . With the merger in 1929 it finally came to the Church of Scotland. In 1974 the associated community hall was restored.

The building is on Shakespeare Street in northwest Glasgow. It is designed in the neo-Gothic perpendicular style . To the right rises a three-story tower with buttresses . It is designed with open paired lancet windows on all sides and closes with a battlement parapet. On the wide gable side to the left of the tower, twin windows are set in at ground level . Above it is a wide, crowned tracery . The flanking buttresses end in pinnacles . The north side is relatively simple. Three cross gables emerge on the south side .

Community Hall

To the right of the church is the associated parish hall. It was built in 1899. The Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh was responsible for the Art Nouveau design . The masonry of the asymmetrically constructed building consists of gray stone blocks. The north edge is rounded and the windows close with flat arches.
