Rudi Pawelka
Rudolf Pawelka (born March 24, 1940 in Breslau ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2000 to 2013 he was Herbert Hupka's successor as federal chairman of the Silesian Landsmannschaft . On October 5, 2013, he was voted out of office as federal chairman at an extraordinary federal delegate assembly in Düsseldorf.
He was spokesman for the German Forced Laborers Working Group (AKDZ) and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Silesian Museum in Görlitz until 2013 .
Pawelka is Senior Police Director a. D. At the beginning of the 1970s, he was the second national chairman of what was then the CSU Circle of Friends and has been a member of the CDU since 1971 . From 1975 to 1990 Pawelka was chairman of the CDU local association Leverkusen - Rheindorf . From 1990 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2009 he was a councilor in Leverkusen. Pawelka ran unsuccessfully for the city council in 2009.
From 2001 to 2005 Pawelka was chairman of the board of the Prussian Treuhand .
Pawelka made several speeches that were perceived as "anti-Polish". Drafts of a speech he gave at the German meeting of the Association of Displaced Persons in 2013 had already caused displeasure in advance, so that Lower Saxony Interior Minister Boris Pistorius ( SPD ) and State Parliament President Bernd Busemann (CDU) had already canceled their participation two days earlier. They justified this with content in the speech manuscript, which they did not quote in detail. In addition, the President of the Federal Delegate Assembly Michael Pietsch (CDU) resigned. Pawelka himself said that he could not understand what was objectionable about his speech. He had in the controversial speech an apology from Poland and the Czech Republic for the expulsion demand and a "one-sided [e] criticized reconciliation". He had also repeatedly spoken of a “will for reconciliation”, but described it as “a lie to describe Silesia as regained territories ” and quoted former US President George W. Bush , who said that the expulsion of the Germans was “the greatest cultural Extermination of world history ”.
Pawelka is widowed and has a son and two daughters. He has lived in Leverkusen since 1961.
