Rudolf Amendt , in the USA also Rudolph Anders , Robert Davis and Robert O. Davis (born December 17, 1895 in Waldkirch , German Empire ; † March 27, 1987 in Woodland Hills (Los Angeles) , United States ) was a German-American Actor .

Live and act

Amendt had worked as a theater actor at the time of the Weimar Republic and was brought to the German provinces (e.g. to Königsberg in Prussia ) and to Berlin (to the English-speaking theater). On August 27, 1928 Amendt traveled to the USA for the first time for a guest performance at the Deutsche Theater in Milwaukee ; he lived permanently in the United States from May 2, 1932. Amendt was naturalized one day before Christmas Eve 1938, but returned temporarily to Europe in 1949.

Amendt made his debut in front of a cinema camera in Germany with the outgoing silent film. Since 1933 he was seen under the pseudonyms Rudolph Anders, Robert Davis and Robert O. Davis with small roles in an abundance of Hollywood productions, but in the early years also continued as Rudolf and Rudolph Amendt. The native of Baden-Württemberg filled the classic subject of German US emigrants: he played foreigners of all kinds - butlers and nobles, officers and bartenders, policemen and doctors. Amendt was booked very frequently, especially in the years 1939 to 1945, when a large number of Nazis had to be occupied in propaganda films. Towards the end of the 1960s, Rudolf Amendt withdrew from acting after a number of guest roles in individual episodes of television series.
