Rudolf Böhm (artist)

Rudolf Böhm (born July 19, 1941 in Markneukirchen ) is a German sculptor and blacksmith .

biography

Rudolf Böhm received his artistic training at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . His later fields of work included art and building, art in public spaces, sculpture and installations.

As a restorer , Rudolf Böhm headed the sculpture workshop in Sanssouci full-time from 1968 . In addition, he himself created numerous sculptures, fountains or relief medallions that found their place in Potsdam and other German locations.

When the Fortunaportal was rebuilt after the fall of the Wall , Rudolf Böhm was in charge of the sculptural work. In his role as head of the sculpture workshop, he made sure that from 1999 the missing sculptures in Park Sanssouci were supplemented and the valuable originals were and will be replaced by good copies.

In addition, Böhm supported the city of Potsdam with artistic advice in the renovation or rebuilding of house facades (including at Humboldtstrasse 3 and 4). Böhm was also an artistic advisor for the restoration of the Great Orphanage in Potsdam .

He has been retired since August 1st, 2006, but continues to work as a sculptor. Kathrin Lange and Saskia Hüneke took over the management of the sculpture workshop.

Böhm has been working on a voluntary basis for the Kiels Gelehrtes Erbe association since 2010 as an artistic advisor for the project to rebuild the statues of the four philosophers in the former college building of the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

In total, Rudolf Böhm created eight jewelry fountains , many of them together with Walter Rentzsch .

Honor

Rudolf Böhm was honored for his work as a restorer by the city of Potsdam in 2012 with an entry in the state capital's Golden Book .
