Rudolf Biermann (politician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf Biermann (* 1942 ) is a German politician ( CDU ) who was mayor of the city of Kreuztal in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia from September 26, 1999 to October 20, 2009 .

He is married and has a daughter. In the local elections in 1999, the previous official of the district administration came in a runoff election against his opponent Kurt Erdmann ( SPD ) for the first time in the office of mayor of the second largest municipality in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. On August 30, 2009 Biermann stood for the third time for the office of mayor of Kreuztal. He received 44.5% of the votes and was thus defeated by his opponent Walter Kiss (SPD).

On January 18, 2017, Rudolf Biermann was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia by Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft in Düsseldorf . Kraft cited Biermann's commitment to renaming the high school in Kreuztal, named after the entrepreneur (and convicted as a war criminal) Friedrich Flick . According to his own statement, this commitment and the renaming of the school decided by the Kreuztal City Council in 2008 led to his being voted out of office a year later. Biermann said in an interview with Deutschlandradio Kultur that anyone who vilified the name Flick in Kreuztal was obviously not worth being mayor in Kreuztal.
