Rudolf Brix (born June 4, 1880 in Innsbruck ; † April 26, 1953 there ) was an Austrian writer .

Life

Rudolf Brix studied law at the University of Innsbruck and joined the police in 1905, where he made it up to Innsbruck's chief police officer.

He came into contact with the theater early on and wrote around 25 plays. From 1900 to 1911 he was editor of the magazine Der Föhn together with Franz Kranewitter and Richard Wilhelm Polifka .

Brix was friends with Hermann Greinz , Ferdinand Exl and Karl Schönherr and married the Exl actress Luise Herzleier. Most of his pieces were performed on the Exl stage in Innsbruck and Vienna. His pieces repeatedly caused scandals. The performance of the comedy Das Gnadenbild was banned by the censors in Tyrol and Vorarlberg in 1909 because of “degrading the teachings and institutions of the Catholic Church” and sparked protests in Graz and Linz. The monk and the sinner were deposed in Vienna in 1930 after five performances after the intervention of clerical circles. The piece In Our Vineyard Lies A Treasure , in which Brix made fun of the police, made sure that he was temporarily suspended from duty and retired in 1934.

Brix is best known for his reworking of folk fabrics such as Der Graf von Schroffenstein and Die Räuber am Glockenhof . The latter piece is regularly performed by amateur stages, but it was also very successful at the Ritten Summer Games and the Tyrolean Folk Drama in Telfs.
