Rudolf Düppe

Rudolf Josef Düppe (born July 23, 1947 in Menden , North Rhine-Westphalia ) was mayor of the city of Menden (Sauerland) between 1994 and 2009 . In 1999 he was elected Menden's first full-time mayor. Düppe is a member of the CDU .

Life

Rudolf Düppe completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter in 1966, before he made up for the technical college entrance qualification a year later through evening courses . After two years in the German Armed Forces, he began studying mechanical engineering in Iserlohn in 1969 and in 1972 a teaching degree for vocational schools in Aachen . From then on he worked as a vocational school teacher until 1999. In 1984 he was promoted to deputy head of the vocational schools in Lüdenscheid, and two years later he advanced to the post of head. Between 1991 and 1999 he headed the commercial, socio-educational and home economics schools (today: Hönne-Berufskolleg) in his home town of Menden.

Rudolf Düppe is married and has two children. In 2014 he was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker .

Rudolf Düppe joined the Junge Union and the CDU in 1965 . Three years later he took over the chairmanship of the JU Menden, and in 1971 also that of the Junge Union in the Iserlohn district . He belonged to the newly formed district council of the Märkisches Kreis from 1975 to 1999 without interruption. In 1991 he was elected chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group. For eleven years (1981 to 1992) Rudolf Düppe was also chairman of the CDU's local association in Menden, after he had already headed the local union in 1977. In 1980 he acted as deputy chairman of the CDU in the Märkisches Kreis.

Rudolf Düppe was elected honorary mayor of the city of Menden in 1994. Five years later, when a full-time mayor was sought for the first time, he faced the election again and was confirmed in office with almost 76 percent of the votes. In 2004 Rudolf Düppe won the runoff election against the FDP candidate Gerhard Deimel with almost 60 percent of the vote .

The planned CDU mayoral candidate Thomas Busch surprisingly resigned from his candidacy in March 2009. In May 2009, following a request from the Menden CDU chairperson conference, Rudolf Düppe declared himself ready to run again for the office of mayor in the local elections on August 30, 2009. However, he was defeated by his SPD opponent Volker Fleige (55 percent) with a number of votes of 45 percent . On October 21, 2009, Volker Fleige took over the office of Düppe.
