Rudolf Dittrich (musician)
Rudolf E. Dittrich (born April 25, 1861 in Biala , Galicia , today Bielsko-Biała , † February 16, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian musician .
Life
Dittrich learned the piano, violin and organ since childhood. After his training in Breslau and at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna , which he graduated in 1882, he gave concerts.
In 1888 he was appointed artistic director at the Tokyo Music School , which is now part of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music . In 1894 he returned to Austria, became court organist in 1901 and professor at the Academy of Music in Vienna in 1906 .
Rudolf Dittrich was thus the first established western musician in Japan.
His wife Petronilla, b. von Kammer (born September 15, 1860, † January 4, 1891 in Tōkyō), also worked at the Tokyo Music School until her untimely death.
His grandson is the Japanese actor Jun Negami .
