Rudolf Freytag

Rudolf Freytag (born November 22, 1879 in Regensburg ; † September 6, 1959 there ) was a German archivist .

Life

Freytag was the son of the Magistrate Secretary Friedrich Freytag and his wife Walburga. After graduating from the old grammar school in Regensburg, he studied classical philology and history in Munich from 1898 to 1902 . After the state examination, he first became an intern at the old grammar school in Regensburg and in 1903 a teacher at the Redemptorist grammar school in Gars am Inn . From 1904 to 1912 he worked as a private tutor to the Hereditary Prince Franz Joseph von Thurn und Taxis . In 1907 he received his doctorate in classical philology in Munich.

In 1912 he joined the Fürstlich Thurn und Taxis archive and library service as an archive assessor and became archivist in 1915, senior archivist in 1921 and headed the princely archives and library. From 1915 to 1918 he did service in the First World War and received the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class as well as the Bavarian Military Merit Order . In June 1946 he retired. In 1956 he was honored with the Albertus Magnus Medal of the City of Regensburg.
