The Gymnasium Gars is a state coeducational high school in Gars am Inn in the Mühldorf am Inn district (Bavaria).

The Latin School of the Augustinian Canons has been documented since 1582 , from 1899 to 1972 it was a private high school of the Redemptorist Order in Gars Monastery , in 1972 it was nationalized. In 1980 the first Abitur examination took place.

It has a linguistic , a humanistic , a scientific-technological branch and, since the 2014/15 school year, an economic branch. In addition, the high school maintains school partnerships with the American "East Richland High School" in Olney , the Chinese "Anjilu Experimental School" in Hangzhou and schools in Cremona , Cluses and Saint Petersburg .

School music

At the grammar school, emphasis is placed on musical education and politeness. Thanks to the commitment of the music educators of the school and the region, the foundation was laid for the establishment of several ensembles, and the student body has produced many “Jugend musiziert” award winners and music students. Today, the school and selected choirs as well as the school orchestra, the brass ensemble and chamber music and the school band are particularly active. In the “foyer concerts” the school musicians offer particularly talented soloists (especially pianists, violinists and organists) a platform to prove their skills. In the excellent acoustics of the former (historical) chapel, other smaller groups such as string musicians, woodwinds and mixed ensembles also perform. There is also a Christmas and a summer concert every year.

The Gospel Train is the Negro spiritual choir at the school. In 1978, the then math teacher Manfred Eisele initiated the elective “Spiritual Choir” at the Gymnasium Gars and thus the forerunner of the Gospel Train . In 1979 the choir made its first appearances outside of school, and in 1982 the first recordings. Many students stayed in the choir even after graduating from high school and gave other concerts with the current students, including on several Catholic Days . The choir with its 40 singers has so far worked with the Munich blues musicians Albert C. Humphrey and Tony Spearman , the Johnny Thompson Singers from Philadelphia and Jeanne Carroll from Chicago. The soloists came from within their own ranks. The accompanying band consisted of eight musicians with rhythm and wind instruments.
