Rudolf Hohe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf Maria Everhard Hohe (born September 7, 1837 in Bonn ; † December 29, 1877 there ) was a German painter, lithographer and drawing teacher.

Life

He was the son of the university drawing teacher Nicolaus Christian Hohe (1798–1868) and Adelheid Sieben and brother of Carl Leonhard Hohe (1847–1882). Since October 15, 1869, he was married to Maria Odenkirchen. The couple had three children together.

As a soldier he belonged to the Prussian "Rhenish Foot Artillery Regiment No. 8" and took part in the German War of 1866 in Luxembourg.

Rudolf Hohe was one of his father Nicolaus Christian Hohe's students. No further artistic training is known. As an assistant to his father, he was involved in his work as a copyist of medieval monumental paintings in the Rhineland. With a sketchbook in private ownership, hikes in the Siebengebirge and the Rhine Valley in 1859 together with other students of Christian Hohes (including Charles Valentine Riley ) can be documented. A series of six pencil drawings in a sketchbook shows that he was a soldier in Luxembourg during the German War of 1866. From 1867 to 1869 he was a partner in the photographic studio Hess & Hohe, which specialized in lithographs with landscape views as well as portrait photography. The partner was the porcelain painter and photographer Friedrich Hess in Bonn.
