Christian Hohe
Nicolaus Christian Hohe (born December 17, 1798 in Bayreuth ; † June 22, 1868 in Bonn ) was a German draftsman , painter and lithographer .
Life
Christian Hohe was the eldest son of the Bayreuth painter Johann Hohe (1774–1847) and his wife Christina Johanna Hohe, gebr. Goetschel († 1829). Together with his younger brother, Friedrich Hohe (1802-1870), he trained as a lithographer in Munich and studied at the art academy there from 1822 to 1824. From 1824 he lived in Poppelsdorf and from 1837 in Bonn. On July 30th, 1828 he married Adelheid (Hubertine) Sieben, daughter of Hubert Sieben and Anna Catharina Sieben gebr. Ausderhellen, civil in Poppelsdorf. On July 31, 1828 the church wedding followed in the Protestant castle church of the University of Bonn. The couple had six daughters and four sons together. Two of his sons, Rudolf (Maria Everhard) Hohe and Carl (Leonhard) Hohe were also active as painters.
At the University of Bonn Christian Hohe worked as a scientific draftsman for various Bonn professors. From 1828 to 1868 he held the position of academic drawing teacher at the university. Several princes from European royal families who studied in Bonn were among his students there.

His work spans different areas, ranging from scientific illustrations and portraits to topographical views and copies of medieval wall paintings. “Two main lines of his work can be identified within the overall work”.
- Scientific draftsman
Hohe saw himself as a scientific draftsman. Due to a lack of commissions in the natural sciences and medicine , he sought contact with archaeologists from Bonn. In the following years he devoted himself to medieval wall paintings as an appraiser , copyist and restorer .
- Painter of the Rhine Romanticism
The second main group of his work includes the area of landscape painting and topographical views. He is one of the artists of the Rhine Romanticism . His sketchbooks show him as a distinct draftsman. In collaboration with the Bonn publishers, he provided topographical views.
