Rudolf Malter

Rudolf Malter (born July 30, 1937 in Spiesen , † December 2, 1994 in Mainz ) was a German philosopher and professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

After his dissertation on "Reflection and Faith in Georg Hermes : Historical-Systematic Study on a Central Problem of Modern Religious Philosophy" (1966), Malter came to the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz as an assistant in 1969, where his doctoral supervisor Joachim Kopper took the chair of Fritz -Joachim von Rintelen took over. In the same year he began to work in the Kant Society , newly founded by Gottfried Martin and Ingeborg Heidemann in Bonn , which had found its permanent work and organization center in Mainz.

In his habilitation thesis from 1975 on "The Reformation Thinking and Philosophy: Luther's Design of a Transcendental-Practical Metaphysics", Malter relates Kant's transcendental philosophy and religiously based metaphysics . In 1991 Malter published a fundamental work on Arthur Schopenhauer : “Arthur Schopenhauer. Transcendental Philosophy and Metaphysics of Will ”. He particularly emphasizes the "soteriological function of the system".

Following Kant, he systematically presented the zetetic method for philosophy didactics .

From 1984 to 1992 Malter was President of the Schopenhauer Society and editor of the Schopenhauer Yearbook.

From 1993, Malter was chairman of the Kant-Gesellschaft e. V. in Bonn. He was also Chancellor of the Society of Friends of Kant , formerly Königsberg (from 1947 in Göttingen, from 1974 in Mainz).
