Life

Rudolf Mayer was born the son of an opera singer, and was as a boy apprentice of the Vienna State Opera Ballet . Later he worked as a waiter, in the social department of the Viennese working-class district Floridsdorf and as a probation officer . At the age of 29 he began studying law , which he completed with a doctorate . He has been a criminal defense lawyer since the mid-1980s. He started out in the narcotics field and over time handled increasingly serious cases. In addition, he is a board member of the Association of Austrian Defense Lawyers.

Mayer is one of the most famous lawyers in Austria since he appeared as one of the defenders of the black widow Elfriede Blauensteiner . One of his strategies is to persuade clients to confess in order to obtain a lighter sentence - which was not always well received. Mayer has already defended a number of media-effective cases, the most famous being the trial of Josef Fritzl, who was accused of sexual and violent crimes, which was completed on March 19, 2009 with the announcement of life imprisonment against the accused . Furthermore, he was also the defender in the very media-acclaimed trial against the "ice lady" Estibaliz Carranza .
