Rudolf Miescher

Rudolf Miescher (born March 17, 1880 in St. Gallen , † July 31, 1945 in Basel ) was a Swiss politician and officer .

After studying law in Basel and Berlin with a doctorate, he was from 1907 to 1917 civil court clerk and head of the debt enforcement and bankruptcy office in Basel.

From 1911 to 1914 he was Basel Grand Councilor ( Liberal Party of Switzerland ), from 1914 to 1930 government councilor (initially as head of the police department, from 1919 construction director, from 1920 to 1930 finance director, and the entire time head of the military directorate). From 1919 to 1931 Miescher was a member of the National Council . Here he was involved in shipping on the Rhine , and he also campaigned for Basel as the headquarters of the bank for international settlement . In 1925 Miescher became a militia officer in command of the 22nd Infantry Regiment in Basel.

From 1931 Rudolf Miescher was a member of the Ciba Board of Directors . Also from 1931 he was a professional officer as commander of the 4th Division, from 1934 until his resignation for health reasons in 1941, commander of the 3rd Army Corps . From its founding in 1943 until his death, Miescher was President of the Basel-Stadt Military Library Foundation.

Rudolf Miescher remained unmarried, his uncle was the Basel physiologist Friedrich Miescher .
