Rudolf Pöschl (born May 5, 1852 in Rohrbach in Upper Austria ; † April 1, 1940 there ) was an Austrian industrialist and politician .

Life

Rudolf Pöschl was born on May 5, 1852 as one of the sons of the industrialist and politician Josef Pöschl in the municipality of Rohrbach in Upper Austria, which was part of the Austrian Empire at the time . After relevant training he took over in 1871 along with his brothers Louis, Friedrich Franz and his father's business, a leather factory that henceforth the name of Josef Pöschl sons wore. In later years he ran the company alone and expanded the company further. From 1883 to 1890 he was a member of the Rohrbach community committee and was the mayor of his home community for over twelve years from June 26, 1897 to July 27, 1909. He was also a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament from 1889 to 1918, i.e. for a period of almost 30 years . Here he was in the economic policy committee, for which he often acted as a rapporteur for the plenary, especially on economic and transport issues, especially the Upper Mühlviertel .

The multi-honored and award-winning Pöschl, who was made an honorary citizen of Rohrbach in 1910 and was given the professional title of commercial councilor in 1921 , also played a significant role in representative bodies of the economy and in economic committees. For example, from 1888 to 1938, for a period of 50 years, he was a member of the management board of the Mühlkreisbahn . He also appeared as chairman of the specialist group for the Austrian leather industry and the specialist committee for the Austrian drive belt industry . On April 1, 1940, Pöschl died around a month before his 88th birthday in his home town of Rohrbach in Upper Austria. It was only around 14 years after his death that he became an honorary member of the Association of Austrian Leather Technicians . He was appointed to the General Council for the rest of his life .

After managing the company for 50 years, he passed it on to his sons, with the sons Wilhelm and Rudolf junior in particular appearing as partners. The children came from the marriage with the native Natalie Hochleitner, who herself came from the respected Hochleitner and Hinterberger families. The Pöschlgasse , the Pöschl-Villa , the Pöschlteich , the Pöschlpark , the Gerberweg and the groundwater monitoring stations in Rohrbach still remind of the leather production of the family business Pöschl. The last remaining buildings from the era of leather production had to give way to residential buildings in 2012.
