Rudolf Pajér

Rudolf Pajér, Edler von Mayersberg (born September 17, 1858 in Groß Kanischa (Western Hungary, then Austrian Empire , now Nagykanizsa , Hungary ), † April 24, 1934 in Graz ) was an admiral in the Austro-Hungarian Navy .

Life

SMS Nautilus

Rudolf Pajér comes from a family of officers. After graduating from military secondary school in Straß , he attended the Fiume Naval Academy . He started his first job in 1877 on the SMS Graf Dandolo.

As an ensign he took part in the mission trip on the SMS Nautilus to East Asia between 1884 and 1886 . Later he was an independent commander on various ships, including as frigate captain in 1907, he was in command of the mission voyage of the cruiser SMS Aspern to North America .

He was eventually raised to the rank of admiral and only held organizational functions. At first he was military officer of the Port Admiralty in Pola , but soon switched to the maritime part of the military department, where he served as a board member. Shortly before his retirement in 1910, he was appointed Chief of Staff by Franz Joseph I. After the outbreak of World War I , he volunteered as a shipping officer for the military government in Belgrade . He remained in this position until his final resignation in 1916.

He was the father of the actress Valérie von Martens .
