Rudolf Pietsch

Rudolf Pietsch (born October 17, 1951 in Vienna ; † February 5, 2020 in Krems an der Donau ) was an Austrian musician and musicologist .

Life

Rudolf Pietsch studied music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw). He completed his doctoral studies with a dissertation on music from emigrated Burgenlanders in the USA. Since 1988 he has been an assistant professor at the mdw. From 2011 to 2016 he was deputy head of the Institute for Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology .

Pietsch was always active as a musician (violin, recorder). In 1974 Rudi Pietsch founded the “Heanzn Quartet” together with colleagues from the music college. The instrument collector was also the musical director of the formation " Die Tanzgeiger " for many years .

Awards

  • 2012: Appreciation award of the Lower Austrian Culture Prize in the category "Folk Culture and Cultural Initiatives"
  • 2012: Tobi Reiser Prize .
  • 2016: Gold Medal of Merit from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
