Rudolf Rokl (born December 16, 1941 in Rychnov nad Kněžnou ; † September 23, 1997 in Prague ) was a Czech jazz musician ( piano , composition and arrangement ) who was a long-time collaborator and close friend of the pop singer Karel Gott .

Live and act

Rokl has played the piano since he was 4 years old; As early as 1948, when he won the competition for young pianists in Ostrava , he made his first studio recordings. From 1955 he studied classical music and composition at the conservatory. First he played in a jazz trio with bassist Luděk Hulan and drummer Ivan Dominák, who also accompanied Hana Hegerová and from which (then without Rockl) the band Studio 5 developed. In 1958 he opened the Reduta Jazz Club with Jan Arnet's quartet . Since that year he has played in the Karel Vlach orchestra and since 1959 he has worked in the dance orchestra of the Czechoslovak Radio , which was directed by Karel Krautgartner .

In 1966 he won the international jazz competition in Vienna. Then he went with Karel Gott on a guest tour to the USA for half a year, in order to then accompany God permanently as a member of the Ladislav Štaidla orchestra. In addition, he continued to be active with classical and jazz music, among others with Karel Růžička , but also accompanied Miki Volek , Jitka Zelenková and Eva Olmerová . He died of complications from cancer.
