Rudolf Wäffler

Rudolf Wäffler (born November 13, 1804 in Basel , † July 31, 1867 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss politician . From 1851 to 1866 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a silk dyer trained as a merchant . From 1830 Wäffler worked in this profession in Winterthur. He was a partner in the company Wäffler-Egli & Co. He was also a partner in the Swiss Lloyd Transport insurance company , which was founded in 1863 and which later became the insurance company Nationale Suisse .

Wäffler, who had a major in the military , was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council in 1847 . He was elected to the National Council in 1851, when he won a vacant seat in the constituency of Zurich-East in a by-election . In parliament he consistently represented Alfred Escher's line , which he honored accordingly. From 1853, Wäffler sat on the board of directors of the Swiss Northeast Railway and from 1856 on that of the newly founded Schweizerische Kreditanstalt . In 1866 he resigned from his political offices for health reasons.
