He made his acting debut in Jihlava when he was 17 . His stage career took him to Vienna, Salzburg , Munich and finally Berlin.
He first tried his hand at screenwriting and was able to direct his first films in 1919. In the 1920s Walther-Fein directed numerous films and also acted as production manager at Aafa. In other filming sessions he took on the role of artistic director .
His films were mostly comedies or romantic romance. In 1929 he made the first complete German sound film, You've loved me .
