Rudolf Wiethölter

Rudolf Wiethölter (born July 17, 1929 in Solingen ) is a German lawyer and professor emeritus at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life

Wiethölter began studying law at the University of Cologne in 1949 , which he completed in 1952 with the first state examination in law. He then studied for a year at the College of Europe in Bruges . In 1955 he was at Gerhard cone in Cologne with a thesis on unilateral conflict rules as the basis of private international law to Dr. iur. PhD. After the second state examination in 1956, Wiethölter worked as a lawyer. 1958/59 he was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Berkeley , where he worked for his habilitation projectResearched interests and organs of the stock corporation in American and German law . 1960 Wiethölter completed his habilitation at the University of Cologne.

In 1963 he accepted a position at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. There he held the chair for civil law, commercial law, business law and international private law until his retirement in 1997. In 1970/71 Wiethölter was the university's prorector .

Wiethölter's jurisprudential reform literature, jurisprudence , written together with Rudolf Bernhardt and Erhard Denninger , was “a celebrated classic of the 1968 generation”.

In 1989 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bremen .
