The Rudolph saxifrage ( Saxifraga rudolphiana ) is a plant style of the genus saxifrage ( Saxifraga ) in the family of the Saxifragaceae (Saxifragaceae). It is also referred to as the Rudolphi saxifrage , which would actually be correct, because it was named in honor of Karl Asmund Rudolphi (1771–1832), a Swedish-born German naturalist who was professor of anatomy in Greifswald and who later lived in Berlin . This saxifrage is also referred to by some authors as a subspecies Saxifraga oppositifolia subsp. rudolphiana (Hornsch.) Nyman posed to the Opposite Saxifrage .

description

The perennial herbaceous plant with dense growth forms firm, compact cushions and reaches a height of between two and five centimeters. The opposite and strikingly strongly backwardly curved leaves are up to two millimeters long and have clear calcium deposits, which makes the plant appear gray-green.

The purple-violet to purple-red flowers are almost sessile. The sepals are partially ciliate. The petals are between five and seven millimeters long.

Flowering time is from April to July.

Occurrence

Rock gravel and shady rocks over intermediate rock (such as limestone mica schist) are preferred as locations.

The species is rarely found in the Eastern Alps in Italy and Austria from the upper alpine to subnival (about 3000 meters) altitude range .

The distribution area includes the Eisenerzer Alps, the Niedere and Hohe Tauern, the Tux Mountains, the Zillertal Alps, the Brenner area and a site near Canazei in the Dolomites; also the Carpathian Mountains.
