Rudolph Alexander Hehl

Rudolph Alexander Hehl (born July 18, 1839 in Kassel , † May 28, 1911 in Wiesbaden ) was a German geologist .

Life

Rudolph Alexander Hehl attended high schools in Marburg and Kassel. After moving to the higher vocational school in Kassel, he specialized in the mountain and metallurgical discipline. At the end of 1859, Hehl emigrated to Brazil. Until 1869 he worked as an engineer in the railway sector for private and government agencies. From 1869 he was employed as a senior engineer and senior engineer with the preparatory work and the construction of railways and became general contractor for several railways in Rio de Janeiro and Minas Geraes. In his last work on the construction of railways in the tropics, he prefers narrow-gauge railways and, after comparing different gauges, deals with the technical preparatory work and the operating costs.

Hehl carried out several investigations into ore deposits in Brazil and published in Petermann's Geographische Mitteilungen on the geological conditions of the coastal area in central Brazil.

The Philipps University of Marburg honored Rudolph Alexander Hehl with an honorary doctorate in 1883 .

On March 27, 1885, he was elected member ( matriculation no. 2515 ) of the Leopoldina .
