Rudolph Pfefferkorn

Rudolph Pfefferkorn (born May 29, 1826 in Frankfurt am Main ; † October 5, 1883 ibid) was a German lawyer and local politician in Frankfurt am Main.

Life and work

Rudolf Pfefferkorn was the son of the garrison doctor Johann Peter Hieronymus Pfefferkorn (1793–1850) and his wife Susanna nee Sackreuter (1797–1872). His sister Maria married Anton Heinrich Emil von Oven . He obtained the school leaving certificate in his hometown. He then studied at the universities of Berlin, Tübingen, Bonn and Göttingen, initially theology and philosophy , before switching to law . In 1845 he joined the Alemannia Bonn fraternity ; In 1849 he became an honorary member of the Hannovera fraternity in Göttingen.

After completing his degree , he obtained a doctorate in Dr. jur. and established himself as a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main in 1850 . When the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court was established in 1878 , he was admitted to this court. In addition, he was legal advisor to Dr. Senckenberg Foundation .

Rudolph Pfefferkorn was also active in local politics. From 1857 to 1866 he belonged to the permanent citizens' representation of the Free City of Frankfurt am Main and from 1859 to 1865 to the legislative body of the Free City of Frankfurt am Main. In 1858 he was one of an eight-person founding commission that campaigned for the establishment of the Frankfurt Zoological Garden . The aim was to create a zoo financed by donations, which should serve the education and recreation of all citizens and should exist for at least 10 years on a trial basis. This project began in 1858. After Berlin, Frankfurt am Main was the second German city to have such a zoo. The members of the founding commission were elected to the board of directors at the founding meeting of the Zoological Society.
