Anton Heinrich Emil von Oven

Anton Heinrich Emil von Oven (born April 1, 1817 in Frankfurt am Main ; † November 27, 1903 there ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life

Von Oven attended the municipal high school in Frankfurt as a scholarship holder and studied law in Heidelberg . After receiving his doctorate in 1837, he established himself as a lawyer in Frankfurt. He married Maria, née Pfefferkorn, the daughter of the garrison doctor Johann Peter Hieronymus Pfefferkorn (1793–1850) and his wife Susanna née Sackreuter (1797–1872). Maria's brother was Rudolph Pfefferkorn .

In 1840 he entered the service of the Free City of Frankfurt and in 1843 became a Landjustizamtmann , in 1849 a member of the Constituent Assembly , and from 1850 to 1856 of the Legislative Assembly . There he belonged to the liberal Gotha faction and was President of Parliament in 1855.

In 1852 he was appointed to the Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt , the city cabinet. In 1858 he was assigned the office of the younger mayor and in 1864 the office of the senior mayor .

When Prussian troops occupied the Free City of Frankfurt on July 17, 1866, von Oven was appointed chairman of the billeting commission. He took part in the Berlin negotiations on the redesign of the city administration after the annexation by Prussia and was a member of the Frankfurt magistrate from 1868 to 1901, mostly as head of the municipal building authority. So his entire service was over 60 years.

Von Oven was a board member of various Frankfurt societies, including the Polytechnische Gesellschaft (since 1839) and the Frankfurt History Association (since 1854).
