Carl Wilhelm Freiherr von Günderrode (born March 19, 1765 in Saarbrücken , † January 12, 1823 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German forester and politician .

life and work

Carl Wilhelm Freiherr von Günderrode came from an old noble family, which since the early 17th century's leading patrician families of Frankfurt were that in the ganerbschaft Old Limpurg had joined forces. His father Hieronymus Maximilian (1730–1777) was Hohenlohe-Bartensteinischer Hofcavalier and later entered the service of the House of Nassau-Saarbrücken . His mother was the Frankfurt patrician daughter Susanne Maria Elisabeth von Stalburg .

Carl Wilhelm initially served the Nassau-Saarbrücken family as forester , but later settled in Frankfurt am Main as a lay judge and senator. He made great contributions to the maintenance of the Frankfurt city forest and significantly increased its timber yield.

He was married to Philippine Sophie Friedrike Elisabeth von Barckhausen . Her only son Heinrich Ludwig Karl Albrecht died shortly after his birth in 1794.

In 1820 Carl Wilhelm became Senior Mayor of the Free City of Frankfurt . He died on January 12, 1823 in Frankfurt am Main.
