Rudy Van Snick (born February 6, 1956 in Zottegem ) is a Belgian mountaineer . In 1990, he was the first Belgian who the summit of Mount Everest climbed. Van Snick has also climbed all of the other mountains in the Seven Summits .

He made several attempts to climb Everest. As a member of the Belgian Everest Winter Expedition 1988 and the American Everest Expedition 1989 he had to turn back prematurely. It was not until May 10, 1990 that he succeeded in climbing the summit , accompanied by Rob Hall , Gary Ball and Peter Hillary .

After his return from the Himalayas he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown Ninove on May 28, 1990 .
