history

The Warehouses of Central Switzerland was founded in 1873 by the Riggenbach brothers in Aarau, initially as a pure transport and storage company. At that time, the company received approval for a "Federal Alcohol Depot" from the Federal Customs Administration. The contract storage branch has been retained to this day and has been supplemented with other logistics services over time.

In 1963, the warehouses of Central Switzerland founded the car transport company Universal Express . In 1965, this was merged with the Swiss branch of Züst-Ambrosetti , from which Cotra Autotransport AG emerged. In the same year, Cotra was able to secure contracts with Ford and Fiat for vehicle distribution in Switzerland. In 1970, the vehicle distribution in Switzerland for the AMAG Group was added. By taking over the transport company Oretra AG in 1971, Cotra expanded its vehicle distribution in Switzerland to include the Renault and Alfa Romeo brands. Two years later, the contract was signed with General Motors for the vehicle distribution of GM and Opel products in Switzerland. In the years that followed, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Hyundai were added.

The warehouses of Central Switzerland expanded over the years in other areas through various takeovers and mergers. Giezendanner Transport AG, managed by Ulrich Giezendanner , joined the group in July 1999. In 2002 Oel-Pool AG was created from the merger of a number of long-established oil traders.
