The BP Ruhr refinery was a former oil refinery in Hünxe that went into operation in 1960. It was operated by the German BP . The last annual distillation capacity was 8.6 million tons. It was shut down as a result of the refinery dying in 1982. The name of the Dinslaken refinery is often used at the refinery .

Due to the structural change in the Ruhr, which was already becoming apparent, and the expansion plans of BP, which in Germany only had the refinery in Hamburg , the location near Hünxe came into focus through Oberkreisdirektor Richter. The refinery created a railway connection to Spellen through the Dinslaken circular railway , which was also used by other local companies.

The facilities were located on the site of the former military training area in Bucholtwelmen . When the refinery was put into operation on October 20, 1960, Federal Minister of Economics Ludwig Erhard was also present. In 1961 4.0 million tons of crude oil were processed. In 1979 9.9 million tons were processed.

The crude oil was largely on the North-West Oelleitung delivered and the Rotterdam-Rijn-Pijpleiding (RRP). In addition to rail, road and waterway, your products were also sent through the Rhine-Main pipeline .

Some of the products were loaded onto barges in the Rhine-Lippe port of Wesel .

The refinery, like the sister refinery in Hamburg, fell victim to the refinery death of the 1980s. It was closed in December 1982.
