history

RMR was founded in 1965 by Deutsche Shell AG. The aim was to build a safe transport route from the Cologne-Godorf refinery to meet the expected demand for mineral oil products in the consumer centers in Frankfurt am Main (mainly: Frankfurt am Main Airport , Hoechst , Ticona, today Industriepark Höchst ) and Ludwigshafen am Rhein ( BASF ) cover up. In the year of foundation, the number of tank terminals and petrochemical plants to be supplied doubled through the participation of Deutsche BP AG in RMR. In 1967 the pipeline was extended north to the Ruhr refinery of Deutsche BP AG in Hünxe.

In 1968 the shareholders began to extend the pipeline to Rotterdam. For a connection to the RRP pipeline (Rotterdam-Rijn Pijpleiding Maatschappij) in the Netherlands, RMR von Dinslaken built a 50 km long connecting line.

pipeline

The company operates a single pipeline which, as it is currently expanded, leads from Venlo to Frankfurt am Main or Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The route from Venlo splits up at the pumping station in Udenheim. In 2005 the throughput of petroleum products was 11.6 million tons.

Along the 525 km long pipeline there are nine pumping stations for pressure increase, six branch, 13 entry and exit stations for refineries, chemical plants and tank farms as well as 37 gate valves.

Pumping stations

Pump stations with a total installed output of 32,000 kW are located in Herongen , Dinslaken , Ratingen , Geyen , Cologne-Godorf , Wesseling , Ramersbach , Schwall and Udenheim .

Tank terminal

Tank terminals in Homberg, Dinslaken, Cologne-Niehl, Gustavsburg, Flörsheim, Raunheim and Ludwigshafen are connected to the pipeline.

Petrochemical plants

Petrochemical plants and refineries in Bottrop, Dormagen, Cologne-Godorf ( Rheinland Raffinerie Werk Godorf ), Wesseling ( Rheinland Raffinerie Werk Wesseling ), Oppau are connected to the pipeline . In 2006, the pipeline's telecontrol system was completely modernized.

Incidents

On May 5, 1991, at 7:20 a.m., the pipeline failed due to subsidence . Around 280 m³ of petrol were released near the Dinslaken-Nord motorway junction and some of them seeped into the ground. Some of them reached Hiesfeld via the Rotbach and caused fish to die there. Around 5,000 m³ of contaminated soil had to be removed and 300–400 trees cleared.
