Neudegg ruins

The Neudegg ruin is the ruin of a hilltop castle west of the town of Pulkau in Theras in the market town of Sigmundsherberg on a wooded cone in the western Pulkau valley. In the literature, Neudegg also appears as Nonneck , Neunegg and Neuneck .

An Ortolfus de Nonnekke appears for the first time in a Plainer document in 1183. Around 1220 a Chunradus de Niweneke appears to be the owner. Around 1390 a Cherssl the rifleman of Rugers appears. It is not known whether there is a connection with the castle of Riegersburg , where an owner with a similar name appears at this time. In any case, a Niklas Newnekker makes demands on this Cherssl. Later a Peter Laher appears as the owner, then Neuneck is only referred to as a desolate house.

From the castle there is still a ruin with a towering quarry stone wall with a small arched window. The 12th or 13th century is assumed for the construction of the castle.
