description

Wave pool

The Rulantica site, a few kilometers from Europa-Park , covers a total of 450,000 m². In the first stage of expansion, the actual water park extends over an area of approx. 40,000 m² and is open all year round. Rulantica's mascot is Snorri , a male, blue, six-armed octopus with a horned helmet . The soundtrack for the park was composed by Hendrik Schwarzer .

Rulantica represents a fictional island in the North Sea . It is divided into nine themed areas, which are populated by fantasy creatures (mermaids, trolls, sea monsters, etc.). The interior of the park is located in a 32,000 m² large and 20 m high hall, the design of which is based on a shell. It is spanned by one of the largest wooden roofs in Europe from Holzbau Amann . The outdoor area covers 8,000 m². The attractions include 17 water slides, a wave pool (the largest in Germany), a "wild river", a lazy river, several water playgrounds for different age groups, waterfalls, bubble beds and relaxation areas. The gastronomic offer includes two pool bars (inside and outside), two self-service restaurants, a bar and a café.

In the first expansion stage, the construction costs of which are estimated at 180 million euros, the operators expect 400,000 visitors per year (up to 5,000 daily), in the later second expansion stage 600,000 visitors per year (up to 8,000 daily). In order to optimize occupancy and avoid overcrowding, entry is only possible after prior online reservation for a specific day. The park's water supply is ensured by its own wells on the site with an annual capacity of 150,000 m³, which are fed from the Upper Rhine aquifer . A part of the energy requirement is covered by approx. 3000 photovoltaic modules, which are located on the roofing of the parking lots. The park will create 550 non-seasonal jobs, 250 of which will be at Hotel Krønasår.

The operators of Europa-Park have been promoting the Rulantica project since 2017. In addition to merchandising items that relate in particular to the mascot Snorri , there are various teasers and animated films as well as a 45-minute musical that tells the story of the fictional island. In October 2019, the novel series of the same name by Michaela Hanauer was also published by Coppenrath Verlag. The theme of the water park is based on an exposé by MackMedia, on the basis of which the series of novels was developed. Furthermore, in the Scandinavian themed area of the Europa-Park there is the shop Snorri's Varehus and the ride Snorri Tours , both of which are based on the mascot of Rulantica and which opened on November 23, 2019.

Hotel Krønasår

On the grounds of the water park, separated from it by an artificial lake, is the Hotel Krønasår with 1,300 beds, which is themed in the style of a Nordic natural history museum . Hotel guests have direct access to Rulantica via a bridge, which they can enter an hour before foreign guests. The hotel opened on May 31, 2019. The construction costs amounted to 70 million euros.
